It used to mean more but was more of just a formality

Now expressed as the most important thing to do

Something bigger than yourself

Look no further

Here is something to give yourself too

An easy out

this being an unpopular opinion, telling me its something

That all these messages that have been told to you since a kid

Told to give you something you’ve been missing

Something your parents weren’t able to provide

Something for your community to do

a tribe for you to join

a fight that has been voided

A fight ‘worth’ having

though a fight that’s not even our own

Phrased as entertainment

Phrased as something bigger than ourselves

As it is

but nothing better

and ultimately quite pointless

Putting athletes as idols, people we idolize

because they play a game real good…

An endless cyclical sell

every year

the same thing

described as different

an escape from your boring life

watch these people play a game

and avoid the things you want to avoid

As we take ownership for something we’ve had nothing to do with…

If you want to see ridiculous

look to a sports fan

They’ll tell you all about it
